This study aims to analyze community perceptions of tourism impacts in the Taman Mejuah-Juah area. A qualitative approach with a descriptive design was employed to explore residents’ experiences, evaluations, and interpretations of tourism activities taking place within this public space. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with 15 informants, comprising local vendors, nearby residents, and individuals involved in social and cultural activities. Informants were selected purposively based on their direct engagement with tourism-related activities. The data were analyzed thematically through processes of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing to identify dominant perception patterns. The findings indicate that the majority of residents hold positive perceptions of tourism development, particularly in economic terms. Increased income, expanded business opportunities, and high tourist arrivals emerged as key factors shaping community support for tourism activities. From a social perspective, tourism is perceived to enhance interaction and cooperation among residents, while culturally, festivals and artistic events are viewed as contributing to the preservation of local identity. Although certain negative impacts, such as waste management issues and traffic congestion, were acknowledged, these did not significantly influence overall community attitudes. The findings reinforce the relevance of Social Exchange Theory in explaining that residents’ support for tourism is shaped by their rational evaluation of perceived benefits and costs, offering implications for sustainable community-based destination management.
